Every summer I go to California and spent 2-6 weeks with my “family”. I haven’t been there in almost two years (last summer I was sorta tied up getting a kidney transplant) and I’m super anxious to go. I leave on June 9th.
I’ve been making these CA trips at random times for the last 7 years, while I’ve been a SAHM, unemployed/disabled due to kidney failure, and during the times when I can afford it. It’s been a small luxury, and it’s never far from my mind that I’m lucky in this way.
However, I feel meloncholy that this will probably be one of the last extended “vacations” in California that I’ll be taking for awhile. I really hope by this time next year I’m healthy enough to be back to working.
If you’re wondering, The Kidlet is coming with me, but is only spending about a week in Ramona, CA before he spends the rest of the summer between three sets of grandparents (in CA, CO and AZ). K1, unfortunately, has to stay home (with the exception of one weekend) to work.
As for me,
THIRTEEN things I want to do on my 5 week trip to San Diego/Ramona, California:
1. Hug my “California Family” - a LOT.
2. Try not to cry when I watch my “CA Little Sister” graduate from HS (I’ve known her since she was 6!)
3. Try not to cry when I have my wedding dress (K1 don’t you DARE click on that link!) fitting… for our wedding in December!!
4. Get all the wedding stuff finished…. er, figure it all out, plan everything… (and update the website)
5. Eat at Joe’s Crab Shack (with the group).
6. Can you say MOTORCYCLE RIDING?!
7. … can you also say rides in “CA Dad’s” the LOTUS ELISE?!
8. Hang with my #jeep-er (IRC EFnet #jeep) friends.
9. Maybe take a side-trip to San Francisco.
10. Hang out at Laguna Beach.
11. Spend lots of time talking/laughing/hanging out with my “CA Mom“, Mary.
12. Friends.
13. Have the BEST TIME EVER for my bachelorette party weekend hosted by my maid of honor, Liz. My brother and SIL, out-of-state friends Denise, Sherry (Elaine would’ve been there, too…) and even K1 (and all my CA friends) will ALL be there!!

I don’t talk of them often (or talk much about any of my family/friends) so don’t feel left out.
I was their family nanny for the four kids when I was in college back in 1996-1998. They kinda “adopted” me after that and even though so many years have passed we are very close. We’re even having our wedding at their home!
