I’ve been Detoxificating

I haven’t officially blogged (anywhere!) in a week. I’ve needed a little time for ‘detoxificating’ myself - online and in my personal life.

The Dictionary of Krississippi.com: “Detoxificating

de·tox·i·fi·ca·ting [dee-tok-suh-fi-kay-tng] (v)

1. The act or an instance of ridding of the effect of poison.
2. The treatment of [a person or blog] affected by toxic exposure to poison.
3. To undergo the process of detoxification.
4. To change unnecessary drama in one’s life or blog into a safer form.

‘Detoxificating’ sounds so much like a Bush-ism, doesn’t it? ROFLOL

I digress… Anyhow

After the last few weeks of stunning, albeit mostly predictable, roller-coasting around my life, I’ve had a break and I’m back in the saddle again (so to speak).

I’ve taken these last few days to relax and detoxificate myself from some the poisonous Kool-aid that was being passed around. I’m feeling much better, and I have a renewed sense of my own sanity within my pre-defined confusion.

In the meantime (and during my mini-furlough from blogging) here’s what I’ve been up to:

  • The Kidlet started school this week, in the middle of the hurricane/tropical storm Fay (that just won’t go away). I’m really going to love his 3rd grade teacher because she seems very structured and holds high expectations for her students.
  • I had a really productive week with all my tasks. I can’t complain especially when I’ve managed to get all my business handled AND spend quality time with my family.
  • I just want to say that I am TIRED OF DOCTOR’S APPOINTMENTS. I’m so over them. Gah.
  • Wedding plans are coming along, nicely. I can’t say as much for the wedding website, though, which has been pathetically neglected. I’ll have to make time to update it soon as the URL is on our wedding invites (that just arrived Friday!)
  • I’ve been up to a bit of blog-updating here on Krississippi.com: I installed WordPress 2.6.1, added the WP plugins Comment Timeout (auto-disables commenting on archived posts over a certain date), Ozh Better Feed (makes my RSS feed footer spiffy) and Sideblog (for aside posts).
  • I’ve gotten quite a few compliments from random strangers about my blog design. Yes, I’ve done my own design and graphics. No, I don’t do this for a living and I don’t have time to design yours, but I’ll happily recommend my favorite WordPress theme designer for your blog, Delicious Design Studio and my favorite WordPress blog-getter-started-er (?) Desperately Seeking Wordpress.

To do this upcoming week:

  1. Nephrologist and Rheumatologist appointments
  2. Take Jack to the groomer’s to get his nails clipped. Consider taking Trixie and Sassy for grooming and/or clip them, myself (cheaper, but I’m not very good).
  3. Wedding dress fitting/alterations Thursday.
  4. Prepare for [The Ex]’s return from his middle-east deployment on the 7th.
  5. Labs/bloodwork (what’s new?)
  6. Whatever life throws in my general direction….

… plus all the usual stuff in-between.

MUSIC has recently re-entered my life in a big way, so I’ll have to leave you with some lyrics pertinent to this post (and my mood!)

Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes

I took off for a weekend last month
Just to try and recall the whole year.
All of the faces and all of the places,
wonderin’ where they all disappeared.
I didn’t ponder the question too long;
I was hungrey and went out for a bite.
Ran into a chum with a bottle of rum,
and we wound up drinkin’ all night.

It’s those changes in latitudes,
changes in attitudes
nothing remains quite the same.
With all of our running and all of our cunning,
If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane.

These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes;
Nothing remains quite the same.
Through all of the islands and all of the highlands,
If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane

Reading departure signs in some big airport
Reminds me of the places I’ve been.
Visions of good times that brought
so much pleasure
makes me want to go back again.
If it suddenly ended tomorrow,
I could somehow adjust to the fall.
Good times and riches and son of a bitches,
I’ve seen more than I can recall…(to chorus)

I think about Paris when I’m high on red wine;
I wish I could jump on a plane.
And so many nights I just dream of the ocean.
God, I wish I was sailin’ again.
Oh, yesterdays are over my shoulder,
So I can’t look back for too long.
There’s just too much to see waiting in front of me,
and I know that I just can’t go wrong
with these…(to chorus)

    Yes, I read the whole shebang!!!

    Cookie time!

    I write nearly every day, but I’ve been less adoption-y than usual…so I’ve been feeling like getting back in THAT saddle again. We’ll see :)

    And thanks for the suggestions for all things Bloggy Design - I’m a moron when it comes to blog design, sidebars, graphics, plug ins - ALL that - so pointing in the right direction is uber helpful! One of these days I’ll figure it out…

    Can’t wait to see the wedding website updated!

    @Thanksgivingmom -

    Yay! Another cookie :) I should start keeping track, shouldn’t I?

    “I write nearly every day, but I’ve been less adoption-y than usual…”

    I wrote/talked/discussed/thought adoption 24/7 for several years. I burned myself out on it (and over analyzed my thoughts and feelings) to the point that I took my [adoption] website down so I wouldn’t be tempted to talk about it.

    “And thanks for the suggestions for all things Bloggy Design - I’m a moron when it comes to blog design, sidebars, graphics, plug ins - ALL that - so pointing in the right direction is uber helpful! One of these days I’ll figure it out…”

    You’re welcome! You’re always welcome to ask me questions, I just don’t have the time to do web actual designing. You can always ask me via Twitter, too, if you have a Twitter account.
