This grainy webcam photo was taken on December 4, 2000 and was the very first picture the world saw of my baby boy after we brought him home from Ukraine.
Today he turns EIGHT.
I’m a mother to an eight-year-old!! How did time pass so quickly!?
Happy 8th Birthday, Kidlet!
Also on this day, I like to reflect about his First Mother - I usually re-read this post that I made on his second birthday…

Today one of my archived blog posts is featured over a Blog Nosh (magazine) in the Pregnancy/Birth/Adoption channel. I feel famous!
“Blog Nosh Magazine is an online magazine dedicated to promoting the best archived posts from your own personal blogs. “
Thank you Marcie from A Child Chosen and My Two Boys for selecting one of my blog posts for Blog Nosh and complimenting me (big time!) with your comment, “Krissi is one of my favorite adoption bloggers not only because of her loud and proud adoption voice but because she says it like she sees it. I love reading about her experiences, other’s comments, and her sarcastic and flippant reactions to the public and media.”
Rock on!

When we adopted my son (2000) there was a fairly common (but maybe somewhat unknown?) practice of giving an internationally adopted child a “new” birth date to more suitably match his/her retarded physical/social/emotional development caused by years of institutionalization.
Sometimes a kid would end up (on paper) a whole year or 18 months YOUNGER than he/she actually was.

Today, I’m a proud momma just in time for Wordless Wednesday…

—– EDIT @ 1659 —–
When K1 saw this post, he pointed out that the blurb below the highlighed part makes it seem as if my son might have a reading deficiency! Ack! The statement is actually just something that is posted on each student’s report card, and reads “As stated in the FL state statutes, if a student’s reading deficiency is not remediated by the end of Grade 3, the student must be retained unless he or she is exempt from mandatory retention for good cause.“
In fact, my son always scores above average in reading and comprehension. On his final report (the part of the picture you can’t even see) it says that his Reading Common Assessment for March/April should be >=17, and his score is 23.
