The Lump in My Throat

Happy birthday, Elaine - on what would’ve been your 33rd, you deserves to have the biggest party. I bet you’re smiling with the knowledge that your and K1’s office is throwing you a huge one - complete with an “authentic Italian birthday cake” special ordered by your dad.

I wish you were here.

I miss you so much.

My Wordless Wednesday Birthday Gift

The Kidlet was excited to give me his little gift this morning. More than anything else, he was proud of the care he took wrapping it.  He spent at least 5 solid minutes describing the method he used to cut and wrap the paper and use the scissors to curl the ribbon.

I think it’s the most beautifully wrapped gift I’ve ever gotten - because it’s from him.

The Kidlet made today, my 32nd birthday, happy.

More Wordless Wednesday here.

Happy Birthday, Kidlet

This grainy webcam photo was taken on December 4, 2000 and was the very first picture the world saw of my baby boy after we brought him home from Ukraine.

Today he turns EIGHT.

I’m a mother to an eight-year-old!! How did time pass so quickly!?

Happy 8th Birthday, Kidlet!

Also on this day, I like to reflect about his First Mother - I usually re-read this post that I made on his second birthday

Funny Drinking Story (with pictures to prove it)

Last night (or rather, yesterday) was K1’s best friend Elaine’s birthday.

She turned 31 so of course we had to go out and celebrate. We went with a group of our friends whom it seems we never see except for once or twice a year for someone’s birthday. Elaine’s birthday is always a big event and lots of people showed up to hang out. We went to downtown St. Pete and ate/drank at a place called “The Garden” ([info]skotteyss knows exactly what I’m talking about…) and did a little bar-hopping after. Additionally, last night was the first weekend of the month, so the city closes off a big section of street to traffic and a band plays in the middle of the street while multitudes of drunken people stumble around.

Of course, as usual, I was the designated driver… which I don’t mind because I can’t really tolerate alcohol very much anymore, and the extra fluid that comes with drinking isn’t so great for the whole kidney-failure scene. Because I drove, K1, Elaine and her new boyfriend Marcin got completely plastered. As did most of the other people who were partying with us. And, when I say plastered, I mean you could’ve painted drywall with them. The only thing that really sucked was it was SO F-ING HOT and HUMID outside/inside that everyone was sweating like pigs. Ick. Regardless of the heat, we all had fun.

After everyone was sufficiently tanked up, we left St. Pete around 1:30ish. Elaine and Marcin had come prepared to stay overnight at our house so headed home. As soon as we got home, Elaine passed out and went to sleep (within 10 minutes of being in the house) but K1, Marcin and I stayed up talking for a couple more hours.

While the three of us were talking, K1 and Marcin continued drinking - the two of them finished off a bottle of Stoli Vodka, a bottle of Goldschlager, half of a HUGE bottle of Bacardi 151, a bottle of some weird brand of Irish Creme stuff that K1 likes and they also had a few mixed drinks in-between. It could quite possibly have been the drunkest I’ve ever seen K1, even though I’ve seen him pretty wasted on a few occasions in the past. I was actually surprised that the two of them drank so much more at home after they’d already drank like fish while we were out…

Sometime around 4 AM I was sleepy (and still stone cold sober) and I couldn’t stay awake any longer. I excused myself and went to bed. K1 didn’t come to bed until 5:30… what?! Yes, 5:30. And, when he came to bed? It was so weird/funny! I had been asleep for a good hour at that point when he just walked right into the bedroom and turned on all the lights! I was like, WTF?! He was mumbling a bunch of stuff incoherently and acting like he wanted to cry (huh!?!) K1 is not a ’sad’ or ‘mad’ drunk, he is a happy drunk so this kinda concerned me so I stayed awake awhile to watch him breathe. Before he fell asleep I asked him if he wanted to turn his light off, and he said very clearly, in the cutest little boy innocent voice “I want to keep the light on, ok? Thank you…” So the rest of the ‘night’ we slept with the light on. Which sucked, but hey, what could I do? He probably wanted the light on so the world wouldn’t spin… and I think we can all appreciate the need for a little “light security” in a situation such as that. Thankfully, once he was asleep he was REALLY asleep… I was worried I might be awakened to him asking me to get him a trashcan to throw up in, but he has managed to keep everything down…

And he’s still asleep. So is Marcin on the futon in our living room…

Hey, when you fall asleep drunk, you’re fair game for embarrassing pictures…

Here’s where things get pretty funny (if you’ve been holding your breath for the good stuff…)

When I got around to coming out to the living room around 9:30 this morning, Elaine was wide awake and looking irritated at Marcin (who was, and still is, snoring on the futon). Then she says “I’ve been up since 5:30, do you know what I was doing?” Then she proceeds to tell me how and why she woke up at 5:30…

… She woke up to the very odd sound of what she thought was Marcin pouring himself a glass of water in the kitchen. Except it didn’t sound quite right, and she got up to investigate. In a drunken stupor, Marcin had PEED ON OUR KITCHEN FLOOR!!! I guess being in a new house and being drunk, he thought he was in the bathroom! Some might thing this is gross, but I find it hilariously funny… because 1) its so “college frat party drunk-ish” and 2) we’d never met Marcin until last night so he essentially peed in a complete stranger’s house on their kitchen floor! Elaine was a good girlfriend and got out some bleach and cleaned up the floor… and I’m sure Marcin is going to be totally embarrassed when he wakes up and is told what happened (no doubt he won’t remember it at all!)

Approximate location of “the business”….

And then? Somehow, Marcin ended up wandering from the kitchen into our garage and climbed up on the spare water bed we are getting rid of, which is balanced on top of boxes and other junk, and went back to sleep! In the GARAGE! When Elaine told me this, I almost peed in my own kitchen from laughing so hard.

(notice the boxes and junk the bed is balanced on… I have no idea how he even got on top of it!!!

Its almost 1:00 and they are still asleep. Elaine gave up trying to make Marcin get up and went back to sleep herself. The Kidlet and I have been hanging out quietly while taking embarrassing pictures *tee hee*

If you read all that, I’m impressed! You do have to admit its pretty funny, though!
